What is the Greatest Evil?

My pastor Jim Elliff on Wednesday has been taking us on a Puritan journey. I really never knew much about Puritan's aside from the fact that I knew they were very isolated-sin fearing people. I have recently listened to some reenacted sermons by John Bunyan which were very insightful and had the great opportunity to read some Puritan writings by Samuel Bolton D.D. and would love to share some insight that has helped me a lot in my relaxed view and tolerance of sin.

I never in my life have read anyone(recent) who views sin the way these people do and it was revelatory for me to see sin through this new view in which it has really helped me see my depravity in light of a Holy, Righteous, and Just God. How much so has sin become common place in our life, actions, conduct, and attitude. Sin, now think without a shadow of a doubt is the greatest evil unmatched forever. We have in our culture become so numb to sin that when we see it-it does not make us cringe as it should. Our love for God should make us have a unmatched hatred toward sin to the highest possible degree. One sin and one sin only separated us from God permanently if it were not for the Grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ-The Great Mediator, High Priest, Wonderful Counselor, Great I AM, and The Righteous One. I will forever love Him with all my heart, mind, and soul.

I think of all the Jehovah Witness', Mormons, Muslims, and other cults and feel sorry for them because they honestly think they can bridge the gap between God and men by doing futile works. See what Isaiah says about this.

Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean [thing], and all our righteousnesses [are] as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

In the Hebrew filthy rags as I am sure you already know are speaking about menstrual rags from the monthly cycle of a woman. Women you know how filthy that is and men who have been around women or who are married know how disgusting it is. This is how our human righteousness comes before God if you are not saved through the blood of Christ.

Isaiah 30:1 Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin:

Here is a quote from Bolton in his paper. "They add the sin of their righteousness to the sin of their unrighteousness. They cover a blot with a blot-they add sin to sin, dung to dung" You see-without the work of Christ we are hopeless. Imagine trying to run full speed and try to jump over the Grand Canyon or better yet trying to leap from here to the moon with no assistance whatsoever-just your feeble legs. Impossible right! Even more so trying to reach God without Christ. Bolton also quotes

Gal 3:17 And this I say, [that] the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.

He says: to show that we must not work that we may be justified, but be justified that we may work.Bolton says that all the righteousness(aside from God) that enveloped the angels in heaven before the fall was not enough to outweigh that of one sin that got them cast out of heaven."The least sin deserves and draws down an infinite wrath which neither you, nor all the angles in heaven, are able to stand under. The damned bear it in hell. They bear it and cannot bear it. They are slain with it but cannot die. Ever consuming, never consumed. And therefore, how much are you bound to CHRIST! who has borne sin, a greater evil than all other evils, and with sin, all the torments, wrath, and justice due to sin.

Praise God for His mighty works!!

Read this wonderful

Psalm 32 Blessed Are the Forgiven32:1 Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.2 Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.3 For when I kept silent, my bones wasted awaythrough my groaning all day long.4 For day and night your hand was heavy upon me;my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. Selah5 I acknowledged my sin to you,and I did not cover my iniquity;I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,”and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah6 Therefore let everyone who is godlyoffer prayer to you at a time when you may be found;surely in the rush of great waters, they shall not reach him.7 You are a hiding place for me;you preserve me from trouble;you surround me with shouts of deliverance. Selah8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;I will counsel you with my eye upon you.9 Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle,or it will not stay near you.10 Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the Lord.11 Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!

The Immutability of God vs. Women Preachers

All these women charlatans listed above are Word Of Faith teachers and preach another gospel. That other than the Gospel we've received from Our Lord Jesus the Christ. *****************

Today we have homosexual preachers, fornicating preachers, adulterous preachers, legalized murder(abortion), so called Christian co-habitation and the like. These all are sin and they stem from a lack of reverence and adherence to the Holiness of God.

Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

This can easily be a difficult topic to address, so let us establish one rule before we begin. This is the rule-We will submit to Sola scriptura alone. This means Scripture alone. Defined: that the Bible as God's written word is self-authenticating, clear to the rational reader, its own interpreter and sufficient of itself to be the final authority of True Christian doctrine.
The Doctrine of the Immutability of God defined: The immutability of God says that He does not change and this is clearly taught throughout Scripture in countless passages.

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Mal 3:6 “For I the Lord do not change.

To quote C.H. Spurgeon:

“When Christ in past years did gird himself with mortal clay, the essence of his divinity was not changed; flesh did not become God, nor did God become flesh by a real actual change of nature; the two were united in hypostatical union, but the Godhead was still the same. It was the same when he was a babe in the manger, as it was when he stretched the curtains of heaven; it was the same God that hung upon the cross, and whose blood flowed down in a purple river, the self-same God that holds the world upon his everlasting shoulders, and bears in his hands the keys of death and hell. He never has been changed in his essence, not even by his incarnation; he remains everlastingly, eternally, the one unchanging God, the Father of lights, with whom there is no variableness, neither the shadow of a change.”

1 Timothy 2:11 Let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve; 14 and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor.

1 Timothy 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

1 Corinthians 14:34 Let your women be silent in the churches, for it is not allowed to them to speak, but to be in subjection, as also the Law says. 35 But if they desire to learn anything, let them question their husbands at home; for it is a shame for a woman to speak in a church. 36 Or did the Word of God go out from you? Or did it reach only to you?"

I too was under the impression that women could hold the office of what is spoke of in

Ephesians 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers.

I was wrong. I let the culture misconstrue my views of the Bible. I realize the closer I get to the Lord Jesus Christ and learn about Him in the entirety of His truth: I see my depravity and seek earnestly to be like Him regardless of what the world or the so called apostate church thinks of me. With my gift of grace, faith, and salvation I have become a slave to Him and have subjected myself to the His revealed will through the Holy Scriptures.

Let’s get some basics before we get to the meat of this topic. What is Hermeneutics? Defined: The theory and methodology of interpretation, especially of scriptural text. Every good Bible student should become acquainted with this term. This becomes important when we look at the text in the New Testament regarding the order of the church. All of the words used in the passage listed are masculine nouns and therefore cannot be filled by any woman. I love women! Believe it or not my wife is one. With all that said we still have to be obedient to scripture regardless the time we are in. God and His Word does not change with the seasons and did not change with the women’s movement in the 1960’s.

Please don’t insult my intelligence or yours by saying Miriam, Deborah, Huldah, Priscilla, Phoebe, etc. Yes I know there were women prophetesses in the New Testament but they still were to follow the order of the church and you will never see them teaching with authority over men. I see so many people try to say it was the culture. What is Paul’s reasoning behind this? Maybe Paul had a hard heart towards the opposite gender? Wrong! If that is the case what else do we lump into that category and proclaim it was just for that time era? God’s Word transcends time. I know many women who are very gifted in teaching, but their gifting does not supersede the precepts we have set forth from the revealed will of God in scripture. Women can teach in the proper setting as stated in Titus 2. The question no Christian should ever ask is “how much scripture can I disobey and still be ok?” The obvious answer is that we give all our effort to become like Christ and show his glory since we are the church and will one day be His spotless bride.

I’ve heard the common objection is that Paul only restricted the Ephesian women from teaching. They will say Paul was speaking of the false god Artemis where women were the authority in the worship but Paul mentions nothing to this effect and we cannot draw a solid ounce of proof to hold that faulty position. There are three words in the Greek that speak on this role in which they can only be filled by a man.

A comparison of the passages listed in this article you will see that the terms overseer, bishop, shepherd, pastor, elder, presbyter, and ruler, are synonymous and interchangeable. They are simply different words for the same thing.

1) episkopos means overseer or bishop

2) poimen means shepherd or pastor

3) presbuteros means elder

Is this something new that I am bringing to the light? No of course not. We have stepped so far away from Biblical truth when we hear it; it sounds strange or uncommon. I know this first hand from experience. When I first heard this, of course my eyebrows raised and I thought it to be foreign and could not possibly be true. With all the Jezebels we see in the pulpit Paula White, Juanita Bynum, Joyce Meyer, Marilyn Hickey, and Joni Lamb. We have to stand firm on the Word of God regardless of the times. In our day we have men and women alike calling themselves Apostles, Bishops, Evangelist, Prophets, Master Prophets with Cheese, Double Prophet Jr’s and I’m sure they will come up with something more sensational than the latter.

Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written,
“For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Some of us have not come anywhere near what Paul is speaking about in the passages written in Romans but we have already separated our self from the adherence to the revealed will of God through his scriptures because it does not fit into our flawed and selfish interpretation of scripture. The theological definition for sin: Lack of conformity to the revealed will of God through the refusal of the creature to be related to the Creator by faith.
How can we say we love him and refuse to obey his commands?

1 John 5:1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. 4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

DESCRIPTION: Young man pointing at a bracelet on his hand CAPTION: WHEN I AM DOING SOMETHING NAUGHTY, I TELL PEOPLE THAT THIS BRACELET MEANS "WHAT WOULDN'T JESUS DO?" SO THAT THEY DON'T THINK THAT I AM A HYPOCRITEDESCRIPTION: Man choking other man CAPTION: HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU TO LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF?

Do you know Him and does He know you?

In a culture of all different types of Pseudo-Christian people who whole heartily deceive themselves into thinking they are the real thing we have to be extra cautious to separate ourselves from this infectious deception. I owe my all to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ because He and He alone rescued me from this subtle deception. As we delve into the reality of our condition from a Biblical perspective; please dig into the reality of the depths we have in Christ and search your heart to see if you belong to the Good Shepherd.

I deal with people daily on the job, within my family, and in my every day dealings. They say they are Christians but their lifestyle says something totally contrary to their profession. What is a Pseudo-Christian and do you know any of them or are you that one I am speaking about? A Pseudo-Christian is a individual who follows the beliefs of the Christian church but fails to apply them in his or her daily actions. Also can be defined as one who sincerely believes he or she is Christian and even has a level of "righteousness" in their actions but is really motivated by their own selfish interpretation of the Holy scriptures. The selfishness is deep rooted and they honestly don't see it. Christianity is more than a profession and this is clearly seen in scripture. Many hold to Romans 10:9 as the true conversion but simply this is just one of the many first steps.

Matthew 12:30 Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

My heart sinks when I think of the reality of an eternal Hell in which the worm does not die and there is weeping and gnashing of teeth not for an age but forever. This should partly be our motivation and as we see in the scriptures Christ spoke more of Hell than He did Heaven. Heaven and Hell; we have never seen anything like it in this age. We are in this discombobulated world and we can maybe catch a glimpse of Heaven when we see a sunrise or sunset but regularly all we see are the effects of sin. I see Christians always talking about Heaven and no-one talks about judgment. Talking about getting crowns of glory but no-one mentioning condemnation for the wicked. Can you imagine Noah in his day warning the people about the coming judgment in which no-one had ever witnessed before. Do we not have the same task that he had but only with more tools and proof upon proof? Christ is coming back one day to separate His sheep from the goats and we have the foreknowledge of this truth that has been written for us in His Word.

Why then, do we call out names and give warnings about the false teachings? Well the answer is two-fold.

1) We are following our forefathers going back to Deuteronomy 13 and 18 in which Moses wrote and also the Apostles teaching that we have in the New Covenant.

2) We embody the love of Christ. In the Bible we always see love accompanied with truth (John 17), they go hand and hand like peanut butter and jelly, Joel Osteen and bad preaching, Creflo Dollar and prosperity, TD Jakes and emotion, or Rick Warren and ecumenicalism. Look at the intro in the book of Jude the brother of Jesus the Christ.

Jude 3 Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. 4 For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

Jude wanted to just write about the joys we have in Christ but because of the culture they were in he had to warn them about this false teaching. Why? If he did not warn them about the heresy; could he have really said he loved them? Of course not just like if you had a friend who was driving to his demise off of a cliff you would in the same way tell him urgently about his forthcoming disaster. How much more should we feel about souls that will spend an eternity in Hell? I would like for you to analyze your faith as Paul emphasized more than once.

Philippians 2:12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test! 6 I hope you will find out that we have not failed the test. 7 But we pray to God that you may not do wrong—not that we may appear to have met the test, but that you may do what is right, though we may seem to have failed.

Let me ask all of the Christians a question. You give birth to a beautiful baby boy and he is the most joyful being in your life. Months and years go by and the baby still remains as adorable as he was when he was born but you see a major problem. The problem is he is not growing at all even though he eats like normal and has no apparent health problems. What do you do? I would hope that you would take him to get checked out to see if he is OK. So why will you not do the same thing for your professing only Christian(not really) brother or sister? Would you be worried about what they would think of you? Or maybe you might offend them. No of course not!! You see you are propelled by your love for them and should be even more when it comes to eternal affairs.

Philippians 1:3 I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, 4 always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. 6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

You see salvation is a progressive thing. Yes we are saved once and once only but Christ chastens those he loves as the writer of Hebrews says in chapter 12:5-6 until the perfect comes again. In our journey as a Christian we are to daily strive for the likeness of Christ.

Romans 8:29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.

I ask you again, “Do you know Him and does He know you?” Do not take the grace of our God fro granted or use it as a license to sin. The Truth the Bible has conveyed leaves us without an excuse and we will stand one day before a Righteous, Holy, and Infinite God and be either commended for trusting Jesus for the only acceptable propitiation or be indicted for our wickedness. I leave you with this passage from 2 Peter 3, but answer he question “Do you know Him and does He know you?”

2 Peter 3:1 This is now the second letter that I am writing to you, beloved. In both of them I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder, 2 that you should remember the predictions of the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles, 3 knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. 4 They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.” 5 For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God, 6 and that by means of these the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished. 7 But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly. 8 But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed. 11 Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, 12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! 13 But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

John E. Coleman

Omaha Conference #2

This past weekend I traveled to Omaha, Nebraska to meet with Pastor John again for a second time at the house of the host Miguel Soto. The last time PJ (*Pastor John from this point on will be referred to as PJ) came to Omaha was in February 2007 in which I attended as well. The more I get to know PJ I love him all the more. I must admit the first time he visited I was a bit apprehensive partly because the way I had become accustomed to the pastors in our culture. I thought deep down what is his motive; We are not giving him money, so I was waiting for him to ask us for a penny or two and somehow manipulate the scriptures to get $$ from us. Well the conference was over and he said nothing about money whatsoever. I said, "maybe his motive is pure?" I say all this because this 63 yr old man(PJ) comes to Omaha, pays for his own ticket and then teaches us theology from the Bible. When was the last time your hear something so crazy? Ministry for free, certainly he is not from the Word of Faith camp!!

PJ has a strong desire to teach people of God theology and basics of theology regardless of the cost. We all know that theology is lacking not only in the black church but for all churches. The church has been duped for too long. I go to a great sound church now, but before that I had been in church all my life and have never heard even a hint of Calvinism, Doctrines of Grace, Saint Augustine, Martin Luther, or anything of the early church fathers or the reformation. Yes I am black and reformed and have seen the Sovereign work of God in my life and many others to point us to the true Gospel of Christ and I owe him my everything. He and He alone is worthy of all my praise. Ok back to PJ.

If you would think of Apostle Paul or even Christ, could you hear them asking for money to preach the Gospel? Of course they are worthy of it, but there love for the brethren would propel them to preach the Gospel at all cost. In this I love PJ all the more because he aspires to emulate the attributes of God and the Apostles. I put PJ at the same level as John Macarthur in his teachings depth with the tenacity and heart of Paul Washer. Just a great man. I know too well not to praise man over God, so as much as I love PJ and thank God for using him as an instrument to bring me out of my ignorance-I still give praise to God for his sovereign work in PJ and in all the saints alike. PJ is not like most pastors. At my old Word Of Faith church and at many of them I know: the pastor will not just go out to eat with or just hang with the common laymen.(i hate this term because it makes it seem as if the laymen cannot be as gifted in other areas of ministry aside from preaching) After PJ taught us we went out to a Christian bookstore and he showed us a couple of great books to use for study and thereafter we went to dinner and (the group)spent the whole day together up until about 11pm since he was not leaving until Sunday morning. He acted as if we were just his friends(in which we are) and did not esteem himself more highly than us with his strong theological background or experience as a pastor for many many years.

I intend on having PJ in Kansas City one of these days but most likely it will be next year since PJ is scared of the snow. Sounds kind of like Elijah when he was running from Jezebel huh. Man up PJ!!!! LOL Love you older brother.
